Request: Could you please add the old "place hold" feature where you can specify the begin and end dates of the hold. It is useful to have that option so we can avoid having books com when we're out of town. Thank you.

Answer

Hello, and thank you for contacting the library. In the online catalog, you can set a 'suspension' period for titles you have on hold. Just select 'my account,' click on the 'holds' tab, select the items whose holds you wish to suspecd, and then click on 'suspend holds.' A pop-up calendar will let you enter start and end dates to suspend the hold. During that time, your holds will not be filled, but you will not lose your place in line. As you mention, this is a useful feature for library patrons who know they will be out of town and unable to pick up holds on certain dates.

Sincerely,

Phil/SDPL
