why wasn't i notified that my hold was available for pickup?

Hello, I'm sorry to hear that you were not properly notified about your hold being available. We have found that some email service providers automatically route our notices to spam/junk mail folders. In order to avoid this happening in the future, please add to your list of email contacts. If you still don't seem to be getting notices, please give the library call and we will investigate further.
